The Byam Learning Garden
New England Birdhouse is building custom bird houses and bird feeders for the new Learning Garden at The Byam School. This outdoor learning center is located in the Chelmsford, Massachusetts elementary school’s central courtyard and is visible from large windows along the main entryway, cafeteria and school library.
The Learning Garden will be used as an outdoor classroom with an emphasis on ecology, gardening, wildlife habitats, recycling and reusing and biology.
To maximize the wild bird learning opporunities for the nature center, we are creating a custom series of nestbox and platform bird houses, a bird house equipped with a nestbox camera and a platform bird feeder.
Our goal for the design is to create structures that are safe for the wild birds, durable and easy to maintain, consistent with the architecture of the school and the garden’s natural surroundings, and are primarily built with recycled or reused materials.
We will update our progress on this project in future posts.
